GREAT!! ... but whats up with background audio & midi?

this was the first "real" synth app I purchased on on my iPad (4th gen retina) that I still use today. I held out on this version for the iPhone simply for the point of redundancy and storage (16G iPhone5s)
but with animoog for iPhone & Modular, my phones core midi was getting a bit lonely ... plus Im not one to use presets and Ive spent lots of time making my own on the iPad - might as well use them across all devices, right?

well ... wrong. kind of.
Background Audio does not work on my iPhone5s nor does it send or receive midi on ANY channel.
Im not sure I want to reset my phone for just this reason, but Im at a loss. Ive tried everything I can think of (including the recent update for animoog which sounded like the culprit, but nope).
gotta get this figured out and 5 stars it is.
